Attractions, Entertainment, Family

Family Fun

Westchester County is your destination for a family outing, indoor or outdoor, any season of the year. Here are some favorite stops for your next visit:

LEGOLAND® Discovery Center
After checking out top New York landmarks constructed of Lego bricks, kids can create their own rugged structures to withstand the shaking “Earthquake Tables.” A soft-play area is perfect for young builders, who also can enjoy rides, a 4-D film and a chance to see how Legos are made.

Playland Amusement Park
Families have been making memories at this classic amusement park since 1928. It’s not just thrilling rides — Playland also features concerts and seasonal entertainment, a beach, pool and boardwalk.

Grand Prix New York Racing
This is northern Westchester’s hotspot for family fun, complete with two quarter-mile go-kart tracks and a four-lane slot-car road course. When you finish your laps, check out the arcade, 12 bowling lanes, a giant bouncy castle and gaming pavilion.

iFLY
Take flight at New York’s only indoor skydiving facility in Yonkers. There’s no parachute and no jumping, just a wall-to-wall cushion of air that gives you an incredibly realistic and safe free-fall experience.

FunFuzion
Multiple entertainment venues provide a fun-filled day year-round. Enjoy video games, rides, “LazerTag,” glow-in-the-dark bowling, billiards, go-karts and mini-golf.

Westchester Knicks
The County’s first pro-sports franchise — the NBA Development League affiliate of the storied New York Knicks — takes to the court each November, showcasing top hoops talent.

Boundless Adventures

This is for anyone looking for an aerial adventure park experience. Maneuver through nature in a range of obstacle courses that offer exhilarating activities such as extreme tree climbing, ziplining and bridge traversing.

Shopping

Sophisticated Style

As one of the New York metro area’s most affluent counties, Westchester has a rare concentration of quality malls. Here are a few choices:

Ridge Hill in Yonkers offers a town-square ambience and stores like L.L. Bean, Sephora and the Republic of Couture. The kids will demand a visit to nearby LEGOLAND® Discovery Center. Or take in the latest big-screen blockbuster at the  Showcase Cinema de Lux theater.

Hundreds of years ago, Native Americans bartered wares at the spot where, today, the Cross County Parkway meets the New York Thruway in Yonkers. It’s a fitting location for an enduring Westchester mall, the Cross County Shopping Center. A complete renovation, covered free parking, children’s play areas, and more than 100 stores, from Macy’s to Swarovski to Aldo to A/X Armani Exchange make this a shopping mecca.

“Destination Shopping” is the only way to describe The Westchester in White Plains. The ambience is elegant — think skylights, marble floors and plush seating areas — and the store roster includes the most prestigious names in retail: Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Tiffany, Louis Vuitton, Omega, Burberry and David Yurman, to name just a few.

For a budget less lofty, head to The Galleria at White Plains, where Macy’s and Sears anchor a multi-level mall offering favorite brand-names like Victoria’s Secrets, Old Navy, Forever 21 and some 120 other stores.
